U.S. Rep. Rob Portman: Sen. John Kerry's Economic Policies Would Cost Jobs in Ohio WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Rep Rob Portman (R-OH) issued the following statement in regards to Sen. John Kerry's economic policies:

"Senator Kerry's policies of higher taxes, increased regulation and economic isolationism would hurt Ohio's economy and Ohio workers.

"Senator Kerry voted against both President Bush's 2001 and 2003 economic growth proposals, which have benefited more than 4.4 million Ohio taxpayers. Senator Kerry's economic plan is to raise taxes during his first 100 days in office.

"Senator Kerry has also supported defense cutbacks that would weaken America's ability to win the War on Terror and harm Ohio's 100,000 defense industry jobs. For instance, the Army tank plant in Lima, Ohio provides hundreds of jobs upgrading and maintaining M1 Abrams tanks, a weapon system Senator Kerry voted against.

"Senator Kerry is also a co-sponsor of the anti-coal Jeffords bill, which is predicted to cut coal use in half and cause electricity costs to soar. If this Kerry-supported legislation were to become law, Ohio could lose more than 25,000 jobs by 2010."
